Movie #16 – Artificial Intelligence (Candice’s Review)

This was not at all what I thought it would be.  I guess I thought it would be more sci-fi and less dramatic.  It was a long movie, too long in fact, and so unremarkable that I’m sure after writing this review most of it will escape my memory and I’ll only be able to say “Oh yeah, I think I’ve seen that” someday years down the road.  Haley Joel Osment is a “mecha” (short for mechanical) boy that is made to love his human parents.  He eventually gets abandoned by his mother and the rest of the movie is about he and a mecha gigolo trying to find the “blue fairy” that will make him into a real boy.  A couple laughable spots, but overall boring.  The highlight of the movie, for me, was the boy’s robot stuffed bear, Teddy, that is cute, smart, and loyal to the boy.  I want a Teddy!!  The ending was kinda weird and kinda lame.  Same goes for the aliens.

Watching 100 movies

This started in a Blockbuster.  Candice says, “Close your eyes and pick a movie.”  I am not intersted in such whimsy.  I prefer to watch a movie at least ONE of us wants to watch.  Yet I give in, several attempts on each of our parts and the best we have to pick from is Beverly Hills Cop III.  To say the least this was NOT going to work.  A compromise had to be made.  We come upon a grand idea:  Each of us picks 50 movies, we throw them all in a hat and pick one at a time.  Randomness? Check.  Desire to watch each movie?  Check.  There are rules of course.  Rules to keep Candice from picking 50 romantic comedies.  Rules to keep me from picking 50 sci-fi or horror flicks.  But in the end we have a small tupperware container filled with the names of 100 movies.  This should be interesting to say the least.
